Dr. Thompson is an adjunct professor in the Graduate Education Department at Point Loma Nazarene University. She currently teaches graduate research methods and culminating research.
Tamara Thompson is an active voice teacher, performer, and musicologist, specializing in French operatic history. Her current research focuses on the muses of composer Jules Massenet, and her book on Massenet and Sibyl Sanderson's work in his repertoire is scheduled for completion in the near future. Dr. Thompson is also collaborating with an international consortium of French musicologists on a book about the worldwide premieres of Carmen by Georges Bizet.
As a performance artist, Tamara has become known for her soaring lyric coloratura soprano voice and bell-like tone. Performance engagements have included appearances with Nevada Opera, Midsummer Opera, OperaWorks, St. John’s Elsham, Toccata Orchestra, and Sierra Nevada Chorale. She has recorded new works and premiered critical editions for composers in the United States and Europe.
An active vocal pedagogue, Tamara teaches genres from classical to contemporary. She runs a private voice studio for active performers and also works with the San Diego chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

Her research has been accepted into international conferences including the FMC annual colloque and 'Carmen Abroad' (part of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World festivities in Wales).
Tamara earned a Ph.D. in Musicology from the Royal College of Music, London as an RCM Scholar supervised by Richard Langham Smith and Richard Wistreich. She earned a Master of Music in vocal performance from CSU Sacramento where she studied with Drs. Robin Fisher and Donald Kendrick, and a Bachelor of Music in voice (magna cum laude) from Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada where she studied with Donna Axton and Hila Plitmann.

Tamara teaches music in a variety of styles based on the student's needs, including classical, music theatre, contemporary, and worship. Her students range from beginners to touring professionals, ages 12 through adult.
